Project 3.0 . Diagrams
The Essence of Complex Scenarios, Revealing Site through Diagrams
Diagrams are essential to capturing ideas, processes, and observations when representing landscapes. A few lines in a well constructed diagram can express complex ideas quickly and succinctly. Diagrams fulfill a role in early phases of the design process as a method of inquiry, functioning as notation while discovering complex landscape relationships. Because landscape architecture often presents many complex ideas diagrams also allow designers to present single ideas or highlight concepts succinctly for client presentations.
Using our favorite vector illustration software (Adobe Illustrator) you will create three diagrams that illustrate how human beings interact with your current hypothesis for responsive technologies in the landscape (from LA 7002). The diagrams will focus on circulation, program, and process. Circulation will describe how people move through the proposal, this should include all intended/designed circulation. Program will illustrate intended uses for each area of the hypothesis, this should also explore how uses overlap between areas/technologies/interactions. Process will diagram how the site and/or technologies changes over time.
Critical to the successful completion of this project are:
- scaled diagrams in Adobe Illustrator from an AutoCAD site plan
- accurately and aesthetically intriguing representation of ideas
- clear and concise representation of each idea
- innovative relationship between linework, color, and text
- consistent, clearly organized layouts
Your work will be evaluated on the craftsmanship, innovation, and accuracy of the finished product.
